Caterina teases a new case for Amelia on E! online

This new interview is for the E! online and have a little preview from what coming next for our little Dreamy

McDreamy becomes McJerk

With a name like McDreamy, it can be hard to see Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) as anything less than perfect. The hair, the eyes, the talent…he’s the ultimate package! But on tonight’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy, he’s going to drop the veneer of perfection, and McDreamy is going to be a real…well, McJerk.
Caterina Scorsone, who plays his sister Amelia Shepherd, revealed that when Amelia needs her brother the most, he’s going to let her down in a major way. So what’s going to cause Amelia to need her brother’s support?

“So far, since Amelia has been a regular on Grey’s this season, we’ve seen a lot of her lightness and joy. She’s got a lot of laughter in her and sarcasm and wit,” Scorsone told E! News. “For Grey’s viewers who didn’t know about her journey on Private Practice, there is this whole other deep, dark backstory that we’re going to start understanding in this episode, having to do with her addiction and her tragic history that we saw on Private Practice. And then in the hospital, that backstory is going to be revealed to her coworkers who, like the audience, didn’t know about her history.”
Someone from Amelia’s past is going to shake up her present, revealing her dark history in a very public way at Grey Sloan Memorial. And when the incident leaves her job and professional standing in question, Derek is going to let her down.

“Her relationship with Derek is going to be shaken up in this episode,” Scorsone said. “She would have expected Derek to come to her support and help her and be her knight in shining armor in this critical moment, but he doesn’t quite deliver. It’s really shocking and jarring for Amelia to see that the person she always thought of as her greatest supporter ultimately isn’t there for her.”

In the absence of Derek’s support, Amelia will be forced to seek out other allies in the hospital.

“There are a couple people she turns to in Derek’s absence,” Scorsone revealed. “Richard Webber (James Pickens, Jr.), who is also sober, was struggling with Maggie (Kelly McCreary) revealing that she was his daughter, and Amelia helped him with that, so when this happens, he’s the person she seeks out in the hospital. He’s there for her in a protective fatherly way in some really sweet scenes. He helps her put the pieces back together.”

Another person Amelia seeks out for support? Derek’s own wife, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo)!
“She leans on Meredith, too,” Scorsone said. “That has more to do with the relationship with Derek that has been so damaged. She turns to Meredith because other than Amelia, Meredith knows Derek better than anyone. She’s just trying to make sense of what happened between the two of them.”
Grey’s Anatomy fans have been wondering if Amelia would become involved with Owen (Kevin McKidd) ever since Cristina (Sandra Oh) moved away, and this would obviously be the perfect moment for the two of them to connect. But Scorsone said she hasn’t seen that happen…yet.

“I don’t know! It’s so funny because I’m as curious as you are,” Scorsone said. “They haven’t connected romantically yet. They have their first couple of scenes together finally in this episode. There are more scenes in the next episode and there is definitely a connection between them. They both have really tragic, traumatic histories they have had to heal from and live with in an ongoing way. They understand each other in a way that the other doctors can’t.”

Now that her dark past is coming to light at work, should Amelia be worried about losing her job?

“That’s her central worry,” Scorsone said. “After the tragedies that she suffered when she relapsed, she has spent so much time and energy putting her life back together again. In one fell swoop, this person comes in and blows everything apart in terms of the new life she built for herself. So that is her fear, that she will lose her job and her credibility that she’s worked so hard to build when people find out her history. Everything is falling down around her.”
But at least Amelia has one bright spot at work to look forward to.

“There’s a medical case coming up that Amelia just gets mesmerized by in an almost obsessive way,” Scorsone said. “That will propel her for the next few episodes.”

Btw, I’m really curious for this new case that gonna put our Little Dreamy on focus again ❤

New Caterina’s Interview for TV Fanatic

A new interview and HEY SHE TALKS ABOUT ELIZA AWNN ❤

The past is about to rear its ugly head for Shepherd tonight on Grey’s Anatomy Season 11 Episode 7.

Fans of Practice will remember the amazing, emotional storyline with Amelia’s drug addiction and the death of her fiancé from an overdose. When that piece of her history comes to light in Seattle, it makes things very complicated professionally at the hospital … but also personally with her brother, Derek.

I talked with Scorsone earlier this week and she told me about revisiting this moving storyline, as well as how we’ll see it play out in tonight’s episode. Let’s see what she had to say…

Derek vs. Amelia – Grey’s Anatomy Season 11 Episode 7
TV Fanatic: It sounds like Amelia’s past is going to come back and bite her in the ass a little bit.

Caterina Scorsone: Yes, someone comes to the hospital and basically outs her publicly to everyone about really delicate stuff that happened to her in her past and her struggle with addiction. That’s bad for Amelia but it’s kind of good for us as viewers because a lot of the Grey’s audience watched Private Practice but for those who didn’t watch Private Practice there’s this really rich back story with Amelia that we finally get to with this episode.

TVF: I remember talking to you when those episodes of Practice were airing but do you think Amelia thought all this was truly in the past and it blind sides her or has it been more present that we, or she, realizes.

CS: I think her hope is that she didn’t have to address it with everyone. Her addiction and the tragedy that she suffered during her using and after she was using are with her all the time and informs a lot of her decisions. She’s always one choice away from falling victim to her addiction again so that’s always with her. I think she left her relationship, she moved to Seattle to help Meredith and Derek and I think part of trying to heal that pain and leave that part of her behind her and start fresh and here it is rearing its ugly head. Wherever you go, there you are I think that’s a hard lesson she’s learning in this episode and she really will have to face all that again in a new context and deal with hit.

TVF: From the promos it looks like Derek and Amelia get to get in each other’s faces and yell at each other. How was that shooting with Patrick Dempsey?

CS: This is a really, really interesting episode for that relationship. I think Amelia has always held her brother up and he’s always been on this pedestal to her. She doesn’t have a Dad because their father was killed when they were young and Derek kind of filled that role to some extent so she’s always really looked up to him. She was always the black sheep screw-up in the family and he was this awesome, untouchable, virtuous guy. After she’s exposed, she relies on him to come to her aid and he kind of falters. I think it’s really a shock to Amelia and I think it’s a shock to Derek as well and it really shakes up the core dynamic of their relationship.

TVF: And nobody can get you like your family and I’m guessing that’s what we’ll see.

CS: Yeah, I think you show your best and your worst with the people that you’re closest to and that relationship between Derek and Amelia is close for so many reasons. They seem like polar opposites in some ways and he’s really cool and she’s really hot but they both went into neurosurgery. I think the immediate thing that linked them was they were the only two in this huge family who were there and witnessed the murder of their father in front of them so they share that really early traumatic experience and he was shot in the head and they both became neurosurgeons after that.

TVF: Is there a chance that Owen will be pulled into that conflict? I know I’d love to see you in some scenes with Kevin McKidd.

CS: He does get pulled into it awkwardly. He’s the head of surgery so his decisions will end up informing what happens between Derek and Amelia and profession for her and like a lot of people he never heard about her addiction so they’re trying to untangle what is hearsay and what is true and he has to make some tough decisions about what to do in terms of the head of neuro position that she and Derek have been battling for.

TVF: Do we get flashbacks to the story on Practice or how do we get informed into what happened in the past?

CS: They’re informed by other parties and then there’s a lot of gossip in this episode in terms of he said, she said and what’s the real story and everyone is speculating about Amelia. They hear one version of something and she hasn’t really explained her situation yet so there’s a lot of speculation of what really happened so you hear bits and pieces.

TVF: Since it sounds like Derek isn’t really there for her, who does she lean on? Does she have anyone?

CS: She really is lucky to have Weber but what’s neat is they’re both in AA together and he divulged to Amelia and the whole group about being the father of Maggie and Amelia was able to be there for him and now when she’s in this situation he’s the person she goes to at the hospital. She also has a nice scene with Meredith and they have some big sister bonding time.

TVF: And, personally, how is Mom life?

CS: She’s two and a half and it’s amazing. It’s totally life changing and it kind of slows things down in terms of being about town but it’s hilarious every day. There’s a lot of joy.

New interview to Hollywood Reporter

A new interview from Caterina was released today. She talks about this new ep and how this changes Amelia and Derek relationship. Read it bellow:

Amelia Shepherd’s (Caterina Scorsone) past is coming back to create friction with her golden child brother, Derek, this week on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.

The Private Practice transfer has worked tirelessly to rebuild — and recover — from her drug addict past, the grief of losing boyfriend Ryan and the loss of their baby, who was born without a brain.

“The biggest thing in this episode is that nobody really knows the whole story. There is a lot of gossip and speculation because of the way Amelia is outed,” Scorsone tells The Hollywood Reporter of the woman from Anonymous who arrives at the hospital who interprets Amelia’s story for her.
Amelia’s dark history will immediately throw everything into question for Memorial’s new head of neuro, with her fellow staffers each reacting in different ways. However, the biggest surprise will be how her brother, Derek (Patrick Dempsey), responds to the whole flap — though the older Shepherd was fully aware of Amelia’s struggles.
“Amelia would have expected Derek would have been the person for her to turn to and lean on in this time,” Scorsone says. “She does go to him and is pretty shocked by what she finds there — and it’s actually Meredith who ends up supporting Amelia during everything.”
The resulting family drama will throw the siblings’ relationship into question and force Amelia to see Derek — whom she’d previously always viewed as the “responsible, golden child and father figure” — in a new light.
“She’s really expecting some reciprocity there and when push comes to shove, Derek’s reaction is shockingly disappointing,” Scorsone says. “She is surprised by it and he is equally surprised by it. He doesn’t behave in a way that she would ever have expected of himself.”

“That’s what’s so tragic about this episode: She went through more on Private Practice than any human could reasonably endure,” she adds. “She suffered so much tragedy, heartbreak and really has taken the long and hard path back to sobriety and back to a balanced life. Now she’s come to Seattle under these circumstances to be of service and she’s finally proving herself as the chief of neuro and then her tragedies come back to blindsided her.”
“There’s the shock and sadness of seeing that all of the work that she’s done to build this new life in Seattle is being destroyed as everybody is finding out about her past in a way that she’s not in control of,” she continues. “It’s not as though she decided that she’s comfortable with revealing her history and was able to tell the story in a sensitive way; it was taken from her and exposed in a way that she wasn’t in control of and that she wouldn’t have chosen. It’s a pretty exposing and disempowering experience for her.”
Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on ABC. Check back to THR’s The Live Feed after the episode for more from Scorsone.

Entertainment Weekly Interview

As I say, GREAT week to be a Caterina’s fan. We have a new interview about this week’s ep, and it keeps gettin better:

There’s quite a commotion at Grey Sloan Memorial. A woman is getting increasingly angry, making a scene in front of half the hospital. She has good reason to be demanding a new doctor: She’s just realized that the surgeon working with her mother also happens to be an addict she knows from Narcotics Anonymous meetings. “Anonymous,” of course, is a relative term here: EW has hit the set of Grey’s to see Amelia’s (Caterina Scorsone) past—including her hardcore drug use and the details of her late boyfriend’s overdose—unravel for all to see in the span of roughly 30 seconds.

For those who may not be in the know, the former Private Practice character struggled with addiction from a young age after witnessing the murder of her father alongside her older brother, Derek (Patrick Dempsey). After overdosing in her youth, Amelia got on the straight and narrow and became a doctor—but struggled in later years, eventually turning to pills and alcohol. The tipping point came when her new boyfriend Ryan, whom she met in AA, died of an overdose after the two took the last of their pills and swore to get clean the next day. After rehab, Amelia later discovered she was pregnant with the late Ryan’s baby—but the child was born without a brain. Suffice it to say, things haven’t been easy for the youngest Shepherd sibling.

“This episode allows us to go back and revisit all of that stuff and bring her past into the present, so that all the Grey’s fans who weren’t familiar with that hardcore journey she went on in Private Practice will start to see that backstory, and start to see all the layers of this quirky, wacky neurosurgeon. Who is also Little Dreamy,” Scorsone says.

Among the crowd that witnesses Amelia’s confrontation is Owen (Kevin McKidd), who’s forced to reevaluate whether Amelia is the best person for this job. “You can understand why people would be slightly concerned, knowing that their neurosurgeon had a history with hard narcotics,” Scorsone says. “He doesn’t know how hard she’s been working on her sobriety.”

That all may work in Derek’s favor, as he’s been playing second fiddle to his younger sister after deciding against moving to Washington D.C. this season. “There’s been a lot of tension since she came to the hospital, because she originally moved and left her whole life with the idea that she was going to take over his position in the hospital—so that he could feel good about leaving and going to Washington. And of course, at the last minute, he decides to stay,” Scorsone says. “We’re stuck with two highly talented, brilliant neurosurgeons in a very small space. They’ve been having some sibling rivalry since she got there. In this episode, there’s an interesting and key moment when her credibility is thrown into question. It lands on Derek to make a decision about how he’s going to represent her, defend her honor and credibility—or not defend it.”

It goes without saying that Amelia hasn’t made a great first impression with some of her new co-workers—especially Owen. “It is not an ideal circumstance that they’ve come together like this,” she says. “He’s the chief of the hospital, and he’s confronting her about potentially having killed her boyfriend through drug use. It’s going to be an interesting challenge to see her rise above the demolished reputation that occurs in this episode.”

But this experience may just be the catalyst that brings the long-rumored Owen-Amelia romance one step closer to fruition. “They have both witnessed a lot of tragedy and experienced a lot of tragedy,” Scorsone says. “They both have mental health problems due to trauma, and both had journeys with babies. But I think Shonda has a great eye for romantic couplings. She’ll know when the right one is happening. I just trust that she’ll know.”

All that being said, could Amelia’s confrontation send her spiraling once again? “She has built herself a lot of support and structure emotionally,” she says. “She has done so much work on building her foundation and core, having meetings available to her. She’s really been on her program and her recovery. That said, I think that addiction is a mercurial, tricky, tricky disease. Anybody who has suffered from it and really understands what it is knows that you can’t get cocky. No matter how sober you think you are, you’re one drink away from seeing that demon. Amelia has a very healthy respect for that.”

PS: I am trying to find the video from the Home and Family interview. In the minute I have it, I will post here 😉

Watch Amelia’s Intervention

Since this new Grey’s ep is all about Amelia and her past od and dead boyfriend, I see a lot of people who don’t watch Private Practice trying to understand what the hell is hapenning on the sneak peak.

I think you should watch the whole serie but, for this ep, I think YOU NEED to watch the intervention ep in PP.

I search for an online link and I finally found one. It’s a double episode with the intervention, ryan’s dead AND the rehab, but I swear, it’s really GOOD.

Have Fun

Intervention EP

New Caterina’s interview to TV Guide

Yay, that’s a good week, a lot of Amelia on greys and a LOT of Caterina on interviews.
In this one she talks a lil bit about Mer/Amelia relationship too. Can’t wait for this ep.

So, a mystery person from Amelia’s past show’s up this week?
Caterina Scorsone: It’s not an ex-boyfriend, but it is somebody who has access to all of her history.
We’ve seen Amelia relapse before. Is she in danger of that happening again, or is her struggle here more about keeping her secrets under wraps from her new colleagues?
Scorsone: The big focus in this episode is that she has worked so hard after the tragedies that she went through and after her relapse to rebuild her life with integrity and focus and generosity. … And here, the dark parts of her life kind of come crashing back. For the last few episodes on Grey’s, she’s been struggling to prove herself as worthy of the title of chief of neurosurgery, and this is just so potentially undermining to that. I think she feels this whole life she’s built for herself here in Seattle threatened.

How does Derek react to the situation?
Scorsone: That’s a big focus in the episode, their relationship. Basically, Amelia’s kind of always looked to Derek to be this example, a virtuous guide in her life and kind of father figure. She really expects him to come to her aid and support her when she’s faced with this totally exposing situation, and he kind of drops the ball a little bit. And I think it shocks her and I think it shocks him. I think it does fundamentally change the way Amelia sees their dynamic in their relationship.

Is his “dropping the ball” related to somehow feeling threatened, professionally, by his little sister?
Scorsone: I think it’s almost a symptom of Derek going through a lot right now. I think he’s under an extreme amount of pressure at home and professionally, and he’s walked away from his job in Washington, and that’s really painful for him. He’s under a lot of pressure, and that’s when people behave badly. In this case, it was visited upon his sister. But I think it kind of shows how far he’s gotten from [his normal self]. He’s not behaving his best.

Is Derek’s behavior something that Amelia and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) bond over?
Scorsone: They do. There’s this really nice moment where Amelia, after going through so much shock — at first the exposure and then her brother’s reaction to what happens — takes Meredith out and they have a lovely kind of sit-down where they talk about what’s going on with Derek. And yeah, I think Amelia feels like Meredith’s there for her in a way that her brother isn’t in this moment, which is unusual. She always thought that her brother would be the one to go to, and in this case, Meredith is the shoulder for her to lean on.

Does Amelia also turn to Richard for support? Will the scene with them attending the same AA meeting be revisited at all?
Scorsone: Yes, absolutely. It’s one of my favorite scenes in this episode. Basically, when this big exposure happens, Amelia seeks out Dr. Webber for support, because he’s a fellow AA member and she doesn’t know where to turn. She kind of goes to him. And he offers just such lovely, fatherly, chief wisdom. I know he’s not the chief anymore, but it’s just like old-school chief, dad wisdom for Amelia. She’s falling apart, and he kind of puts her back together again.

Are you looking forward to learning more about Amelia?

Caterina’s new interview about Amelia

Today we got a new Caterina’s interview about this week episode. She talks about Derek, Maggie, Hunt and a new interesting relationship between Amelia and Richard.

TVLINE | You must’ve assumed Amelia’s past would eventually come back to bite her.

Absolutely. You can’t live in Shondaland without that kind of deep, dark secret coming to light at some point.

TVLINE | How does her secret leak?
Amelia is involved in a complicated neuro case that a bunch of the doctors are involved in, and she’s asked to come into the waiting area to discuss the case with a family member. And, as it turns out, that family member knows all of her secrets, and freaks out that she is going to be her parents’ surgeon. And basically outs her to everybody about her sobriety and her whole history with the death of her lover Ryan.

TVLINE | She must be mortified.
Yes, she’s mortified, but it goes even deeper than that. I think she so firmly compartmentalized that part of her life. She feels that she escaped all of that when she moved to Seattle. Alcoholism and drug addiction is a very dangerous disease. And she knows that she’s always one drink away from falling prey to it. Becoming stressed and isolated is really dangerous for someone who suffers from addiction. So, yes, she’s embarrassed and humiliated, but, beyond that, she’s scared for her sober life. It threatens everything she is trying to build for herself now.

TVLINE | Will it cause her to relapse?
I don’t know. We haven’t gotten that far in terms of the story. I think Amelia has learned a lot, and she definitely has more tools now. But there’s always that risk for her. So far it hasn’t happened with what we’ve shot.

TVLINE | When you think back to Amelia’s rap sheet — Ryan’s death, writing prescriptions for herself, performing surgery under the influence — does it make you go, ‘She really doesn’t have any business practicing medicine!’”
[Laughs] What’s funny about that is when I was initially doing that storyline onPrivate Practice, I looked into doctors and addiction, and the truth is there are staggering statistics on how many surgeons and doctors have struggled with addiction problems. It’s such a high-pressure job, and the hours are so long… and they have constant access to pharmacy-grade drugs. It’s actually a fairly common problem. And they now have protocols that protect doctors, so they feel comfortable coming out and saying, “I have a problem and I need treatment.”

TVLINE | Does this week’s episode establish how much Derek knows about her past?
Derek doesn’t know everything. He knows that she’s had an addiction problem. He knows about Ryan dying. But there are things that Derek doesn’t know. The Amelia-Derek relationship ends up being really interesting in this episode, because she’s always looked up to her brother and kind of sees him as a father figure after they lost their dad. In this episode, this terrible exposure of her past happens and she looks to him to support her and protect her. He does not rise to the occasion. [Laughs] It really recasts how she perceives that relationship.

TVLINE | Does anyone come to her defense?
There’s a really sweet relationship that’s developing between Amelia and Dr. Weber, who is also a sober alcoholic. She seeks him out, and he has some incredible words of wisdom and protection for her. He fathers her in a really lovely way.

TVLINE | Are you enjoying the friendship between Amelia and Maggie?
Yeah. And it’s also nice because Kelly McCreary is totally awesome. We love having scenes. She’s a great actress and a cool lady. And we’re both kind of new to being series regulars, so we’re walking that path together. We feel very lucky about that pairing.

TVLINE | Amelia mentioned recently that she hasn’t had sex in ages. It seems inevitable that Owen will eventually end that dry spell for her. Any hints of that coming up?
We haven’t shot anything that explicitly goes down that road. I think Shonda is trying to be really careful about not accelerating past the healing that both of them have to do. He had this huge relationship with Cristina that was really important to him. And Amelia lost Ryan and her baby, and then broke off this engagement. So she’s got a lot of wounds to heal, and is very gun-shy in the love department. She’s really protective of her heart. She’s been really badly burned in the past. So I think Shonda is just being careful not to push that too soon. But… I definitely see why that speculation has happened. They have some really interesting, mutual wounded pieces. [Laughs]
